this way penguin sketch

This way, penguin

Woohoo, I finished it quickly! Here’s the sketch and the final piece. I’m very happy with it. I’m getting better at placing facial features, I think. The background was so much fun. It took me fifteen minutes. I’m learning to make my lines smoother and cleaner. I also had to be soft in applying the shades, especially on her skin and sweater. I had to lower the density of my brush and sometimes play around with the blend setting.

When I was constructing the sketch, I had a little trouble. I had to redraw it a few times before ending up with something good. Tilting her shoulders and hips in opposite directions helped. I really like the angle of her head too.

I’m definitely not an expert of human proportions, but I felt pretty comfortable eyeballing it. I used my ruler here and there.

Rapunzel’s Pond

Rapunzel's Pond

Hello, it’s been a while. That’s because I was working on this.

This is based on the movie Tangled. There was a part in the movie where Rapunzel was sitting in the river with water lilies, so that’s why I painted the above. I tried making the setting more secluded, but I had trouble. Oh well, I had fun painting her.

The background, though, was not fun. I don’t have much practice with backgrounds, so most of it was just experimentation. But I’m glad I didn’t throw this away. I at least made something, and it isn’t even that bad. (I just wish I knew how to fix it.)
